15-degrees south

Saturday, 1100 Tahiti time
S15 34
W145 16
All well here in the blue water. It's a cloudy, muggy morning and we are broad-reaching on port tack, full sails, getting ready to set the kite. The wind has been a lovely 8-12 knots since yesterday and we are gliding along in between 2 atolls, 9 miles away on each side, but their sea-level height invisible to us. Fakarava lies 40nm ahead, and we are hopeful of making it in daylight. Dave fried us up some eggs (now considered precious at almost $1/egg in French Polynesia!) earlier, and Dan did some
morning repairs on broken fans. Rylin is hand-steering so we can make better time, and Schimy is working on a Sudoku puzzle under the only spot of shade at the mast. I can hear the sounds of the pole going up, so I better get on deck and help with the spinnaker… cheers!

UPDATE: 2030 We made it through the pass and are happily anchored in front of the local village, population: 250. We are the only sailboat here and looking forward to checking out the atoll tomorrow.
